THE ORIGINAL SIGN
The original sign from drive thru #1 is still on display if you know where to look. The following In-N-Out locations are the current store numbers 1 - 6. They are not quite the same as the original six.

3-IN-ONE. Three In-N-Out signs in one photo. Taken at the #2 Store-Number-One location, looking toward the #3 Store-Number-One location, across the site where the #1 Store-Number-One location is located. That store opened on October 22, 1948 and had to move to the #2 Store-Number-One Site in about 1954. The #3 Store-Number-One location opened very near to the original In-N-Out University location, which was torn down to make way for the current In-N-Out University complex. Confused yet? In April of 2011, In-N-Out demolished the #2 Store-Number-One, seen in this photo, reducing it to a pile of rubble. I was fortunate to be able to photograph this site before it was torn down.

The crossed palms are located at the rear of the number 2 store. Do you know the significance of the crossed Palms found at most In-N-Out locations? The original location for this #002 was just around the corner from it's current location. That previous location opened on 10-05-1959. This #2 is not the original In-N-Out #2.

The palms aren't crossed at Number 3, and this is not the first location for #3, either. This location opened as #3 on 2-23-1977. The previous #3 was located on Towne Avenue in Pomona and opened on 07-03-1962, and it was not the original #003. The Pomona #003 location was closed (reportedly due to robberies) and was reopened here.

004 Opened March 1st, 1951, across the street from this, it's current location. The original #004 suffered a fire and a new, second #004 location was opened on the south side of this street and to the east. I remember eating there with my father when I was very young. This, the 3rd incarnation of #004 is located on the same side of the street, further to the west, but still in the same general area as the two earlier #004's. Now, an update to all this. It's been recently brought to light that in the very early days this In-N-Out store was originally located on Valley Blvd., in El Monte.

This is the only In-N-Out of the first 6 stores to remain in it's original location, opening September 18, 1952. It currently is without it's sign (seen in this photo), which at the time of this writing was taken down to be refurbished.

Opened August 1, 1966 in the town where I grew up. This is NOT the first location for #6. The first #006 was located at 841 W. Foothill (Route 66) in Azusa, in the early 1950's. That original #006 location was in use as a drive-thru hamburger stand under a different name for many years. I ate there in the early 70's and it was the same building with double drive-thru lanes and the early-style 2-way speaker system as used in all the early In-N-Out locations.
IN-N-OUT #6 ORIGINAL LOCATION
This aerial photo of the Lucky Lager Brewery in Azusa shows the location of the original In-N-Out Number 6 location in the lower right side of the photo. Opened in 1952 at 841 W. Foothill Blvd., in Azusa, as referenced in the advertisement below..

This early In-N-Out advertisement shows the location of 3 of the original 6 stores. None of these stores exist at these locations today.

THE ORIGINAL IN-N-OUT UNIVERSITY
This is the original In-N-Out University which opened on 12-7-1984. It was a classroom and instructional training facility attached to a traditional drive-thru that would open for limited hours, to train associates while serving actual customers.
IN-N-OUT 001 SITE#2 - UPDATE
IN-N-OUT is nearing completion, as of this writing (April 2013) of a replica of the original In-N-Out Drive-thru #1 which stood on land where the Interstate 10 Freeway was built just to the south and east of this location.

IN-N-OUT #001, LOCATION 2
This is In-N-Out store #001, Location 2, before In-N-Out demolished it, in April of 2011. The bottom photo shows the same site after demolition of the structure.
